Welcome to D3's blog. We are a class of fantastic Year 4 students at Papatoetoe East Primary School. We are excited to share our learning through this blog. We hope you will enjoy D3's learning journey this year.

D3's Elephant Toothpaste Experiment

This experiment created lots of foam, each bubble was filled with oxygen. We learnt that the yeast acted as a helper to remove the oxygen from the hydrogen peroxide. Since it did this very fast, lots of bubbles were created.

Oobleck Experiment

Guess the solid, liquid or gas

Exploding a zip lock bag

Experimenting with water

D3 has been learning about how states of matter can change. We experimented with water and observed how water can change from a liquid into a solid when we freeze it. Ice can change from a solid to a liquid when we heat it. Water can change from a water to a gas when we boil it because it evaporates and turns into steam.

Solid, Liquid and Gas

D3 have been learning about the three states of matter, solids, liquids and gases. We acted like particles in each state of matter, we pretended to be a solid, liquid and a gas.

D3 was pretending to be a solid. So we had to pack together tightly. We wanted to show that a solid has shape and volume.

D3 was acting like a liquid and showed we were close together but could still move passed each other. We were pretending to be liquid particles in a big drink bottle.

D3 was pretending to be a gas and spread out and move in all directions. We looked like air.
